8.9.11.: let there be water

From what we’ve heard, the previous owner skipped town on this sweet old building…  and didn’t bother to winterize, at all.  Needless to say there are burst pipes everywhere, so much that we were unable to get any water turned on for the building inspection.  Not even a drop!  With a little elbow grease this afternoon we were able to at least get water running to the basement utility sink… through a hose.  Not perfect yet but it’s wet!!

8.8.11.: …and is that wall structural?

The plan is to remove the dividing wall between the living room and (past) bedroom and make that space a big lofty kitchen/dining/ living area, highlighting that sweet front window.  We’ve gone back and forth on whether or not the wall is structural.  Logically it shouldn’t be, but you never know with these old places.  When we opened the wall up we did find that it used to be a big opening with pocket doors… and the doors are still there, buried in the wall!  Neat.
